Cross-country skiing: Martin Loewstroem Nyenget, Harald Oestberg Amundsen and Simen Hegstad Krueger make their comebacks
The Cross-Country Skiing World Cup returns to Italy less than a month after leaving it this Friday. In Cogne, some of the world’s best cross-country skiers meet for the eighth stage of the season, which was originally scheduled for Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic.
As tradition dictates, at the start of the week the various national teams revealed their squads for the three competitions. The Norwegian squad includes Harald Oestberg Amundsen, who has been absent since retiring from the Tour de Ski.
The outgoing world number one will be at the start of the classic sprint and the individual skate race scheduled for Sunday. He will be joined by Martin Loewstroem Nyenget , who will also be making his return, as will Simen Hegstad Krueger, who was absent in Engadin (Switzerland) last weekend. Also absent is Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo, a double winner in recent days.
In the men’s race, Haavard Solaas Taugboel, Even Northug, Erik Valnes, Ansgar Evensen and Oskar Opstad Vike complete the Scandinavian team for the sprint, whileIver Tildheim Andersen, Andreas Fjorden Ree and Jan Thomas Jenssen will be at the start of Sunday’s race.
For the women, Hedda Oestberg Amundsen, Ane Appelkvist Stenseth, Johanne Hauge Harviken, Elena Rise Johnsen and Lotta Udnes Weng will represent their nation in the sprint, whileAstrid Oeyre Slind, Karoline Simpson-Larsen, Anne Kjersti Kalvaa, Emma Kirkeberg Moerk, Maren Wangensteen and once again Lotta Udnes Weng will be lining up for Sunday’s 10km race.
