Cross-country skiing : Jonna Sundling is the boss
Late on Saturday afternoon in Oberhof (Germany), the World Cup cross-country skiers competed in a skate sprint. On the German evening, Sweden’s Jonna Sundling dominated the event at theArena am Rennsteig.

Already a big winner in the qualifying round, the Swede confirmed her form in the final phase. After winning her quarter-final and then her semi-final, the Scandinavian took the lead in the final. On the first bump of the circuit, she flew to victory. It was her third victory of the winter – after the mass-start skate in Ruka (Finland) and the sprint skate in Davos (Switzerland) – and the fifteenth of her World Cup career.

On home soil, Germany’s Coletta Rydzek rode a strong finish to finish less than a second behind the Swede. It was her second podium finish of the winter, following her second place in the Toblach (Italy) skate sprint, and the fourth of her career.

After long minutes of consultation with the jury following the fall of Italy’s Iris De Martin Pinter in the final, Sweden’s Maja Dahlqvist held on to her third place and at the same time took the red bib as leader of the speciality.

In front of her home crowd, Germany’s Laura Gimmler took fourth place in the final, just ahead of Sweden’s Moa Ilar. The 21-year-old Italian rider Iris De Martin Pinterrounded off the rankings in this final after a very good start to the race before crashing out on the first bump of the circuit. She nevertheless put in her best ever World Cup performance, after finishing twelfth in the classic sprint in Val di Fiemme (Italy).
