Cross-country skiing: a biathlete creates a sensation ahead of Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo
Einar Hedegart continues to play on all fronts. A biathlete for several seasons now, the Norwegian doesn’t shy away from competing in the Norwegian cross-country skiing cup. And the Scandinavian is performing well, having secured his ticket for this weekend’s world cup in Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway).

Competing in the 10km individual skate race on Sunday, the 23-year-old reached a major milestone. By lighting up green at the many intermediaries on the course, he logically took his place in the leader’s seat set up in the finish area. It was a position he held for a long time.
In the end, the biathlete was only edged out by Harald Oestberg Amundsen, the outgoing world number one. A high-flying performance that enabled him to add his name to the list of athletes who have managed to finish on the podium of a World Cup stage.
The Norwegian’s achievement was all the more impressive given that it was only his second start in the elite category. Last December, he had already distinguished himself in the individual skate event in Lillehammer (Norway), where he finished a solid eighth.

This time, Einar Hedegart has changed dimension: “It’s fantastic. I had some crazy skis and I took a big risk by starting off strong, but they held up for most of the race,” he told NRK in the mixed zone.
It was a performance that caused quite a stir, particularly among his rivals on the day, including Harald Oestberg Amundsen, who won by just 5 seconds at the line. “It’s impressive. He’s the best biathlete I’ve ever faced,” he said. He has a very good level.

Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo, who was beaten on Sunday by his impressive compatriot, also praised the young man’s qualities: “He’s very welcome to take part in other World Cups. What he did today was very impressive”, admitted the overall leader.
