Cross-country skiing: German success at Prémanon
Earlier in the morning, France Pignot from Haut-Savoie got the day off to a perfect start by winning the women’s free sprint qualifier at the FESA Cup cross-country skiing competition in Prémanon (Jura). During the tournament, however, she wasn’t quite as dominant.
Despite qualifying for the final as a lucky loser, the Frenchwoman finished fifth. Germany’s Verena Veit won the pre-manonier sprint ahead of Switzerland’s Lea Fischer and Alina Meier. Italy’s Nadine Laurent was fourth, while Fabienne Alder, another Swiss, was sixth.
Félicie Chappaz, Liv Coupat, Léonie Besson, Léonie Perry, Heidi Convard, Mélina Berthet, Clémence Didierlaurent, Justine Gaillard and Julie Marciniak, the other Frenchwomen who qualified for the finals, were eliminated at the quarter-final stage.
