With less than a week to go until the first event of the 2024/2025 cross-country skiing world cup season, Ruka (Finland) hosted the first stage of the Finnish Cup this weekend.
The day’s programme included a classic sprint that served as a dress rehearsal for all the country’s athletes. Already an easy winner a few days ago at the FIS races in Muonio (Finland), Jasmi Joensuu once again showed no fear. A solid Finn, she won by almost three seconds from Katri Lylynperä. Johanna Matintalo completed the top 3.

In the men’s race, the great favourite Lauri Vuorinen was the strongest. Only eighth in the morning qualifying round, the leader of the Finnish sprint then came out on top in the final stages to claim a fine victory ahead of his compatriots Joni Mäki and Emil Liekari.
