Cross-country skiing: Milla Grosgberhaugen Andreassen wins a second gold medal in Lombardy
Unlike the first few days of competition, it was under cloudy skies that the athletes in the junior category competed for the world medals in the individual skate event at the World Cross-Country Skiing Championships in Schilpario ( Italy). After Lars Heggen’s second world title a few hours earlier, it was one of his compatriots who also came out on top for the second time on Friday lunchtime.

Already alone in the world on Wednesday for the 20 kilometre mass-start classic, Milla Grosgberhaugen Andreassen once again ruled the race. Never troubled and ever more impressive on the Transalpine track, the Scandinavian dominated the event as she crossed the line more than 29 seconds ahead of her closest pursuer.

Her second world title came on top of the bronze she won in the opening classic sprint of the event. Behind her, the surprising Anna Endress took a superb silver medal. In her rhythm, the German didn’t falter to keep her place in the day’s top 3.

Alison Mackie, who already had a tan a few days ago, added a second tan to her list of honours. On the wire, the Canadian worked her way up to the box. On the line, she was less than 5 seconds ahead of Italy’s Marit Folie.
Margot Tirloy, Annette Coupat and Ariane Pignot in the top 15
In the French contingent, Margot Tirloy was in with a chance for a long time. Third in the last intermediate of the course, the Haut-Savoyard lost precious seconds towards the end. Finally finishing sixth, La Cluse showed that she was capable of competing with the best female cross-country skiers in the world in her category.

A few seconds behind her, Annette Coupat finished ninth. A superb fourth in the classic mass-start, the Forézienne still managed to make it into the top ten of the day.

Ariane Pignot from the Agy ski club (Haute-Savoie) rounded off the top 15. Jurassienne Agathe Margreither finished twenty-seventh after a more difficult race.
