It’s a case that has already seen several twists and turns. On 17 March, just a few days after the epilogue to the World Cross-Country Skiing Championships in Trondheim (Norway), our colleagues on Sverige Radio revealed that a 65-year-old man had been harassing star skier Frida Karlsson by text message, and that the accused had even gone to her home.

Since then, a lot of water has passed under the bridge, and he was ordered to pay a fine of SEK 40,000 (around €3,700) in damages. A two-year suspended prison sentence was also handed down at this stage of the trial.

In recent days, however, the case has once again hit the headlines in Sweden. Christina Edlund Nilsson, the prosecutor involved in the case, recently appealed against the Scandinavian court’s decision. In a press release issued by the Siren agency, she explained that the facts “constitute a significant violation of privacy”. She also added that “the sentence for this offence as a whole is six months’ imprisonment”. It should be noted that the accused has also lodged an appeal following the verdict handed down a few weeks ago.
