The first stage of Lapponia Ski Week took place in Olos (Finland) on Monday. In the women’s race, former biathlete Kaisa Mäkäräinen won the 60-kilometre skateboard event.
The Finn quickly broke clear at the front of the race to win by a wide margin in 2 hours 41 minutes and 54 seconds. She held off her compatriots Jonna Vestenius and Tellervo Ylimartimo, who were more than 22 and 25 minutes back respectively.

In the men’s race, a trio of cross-country skiers led the way. In the final pack, it was Ireland’s Thomas Maloney Westgaard who proved to be the strongest after more than 2 hours and 32 minutes of effort. He beat Finland’s Miro Karppanen and Remi Lindholm in the sprint.
