Friday saw the conclusion of Lapponia Ski Week in Ounasjärvi, Finland , an 80-kilometre race on the Ski Classics Challengers circuit. Having already won the first stage in style a few days earlier, Kaisa Mäkäräinen was once again in the thick of things.

The former biathlete quickly got into her stride and simply crushed the day’s competition. Indeed, at the finish line, the Finn won by more than 21 minutes ahead of her nearest rival, her compatriot Jonna Vestenius. Terhi Pollari rounded off the top 3, 24 minutes and 49 seconds behind the winner.

On the other hand, the men’s race was more closely contested. And in the final pack, it was Finland’s Miro Karppanen who came out on top. The 26-year-old cross-country skier got the better of Norwegian-Irish Thomas Maloney Westgard and his team-mate Remi Lindholm.
