Cross-country skiing: Jérémy Royer a solid twelfth
Saturday saw the Grönklitt Criterium (Sweden), the ninth stage of the Ski Classics. At the end of the 61-kilometre course, it was Sweden’s Max Novak (Team Aker Dæhlie) who won the sprint at the top of a terrible final 800-metre climb at an average gradient of 9%.
After almost 2 hours and 40 minutes of effort, he finished ahead of Norway’s Eirik Sverdrup Augdal (Team Eksjöhus) and his compatriot Axel Jutterstroem (Team Eksjöhus). Norwegian Thomas Oedegaarden (Team Eksjöhus) took fourth place in the final sprint. For his part, Jérémy Royer (Team Eksjöhus), who was very active during the race , took a solid twelfth place, just over 50 seconds behind the day’s winner.
In the women’s race, it was Norway’s Emilie Fleten (Team Ramudden) who won. Setting off alone with almost 30 kilometres to go, she put on a great show to claim her fourth win of the season after victories in the Marcialonga, Venosta ITT and Bad Gastein Criterium.
After more than 3 hours of effort, the Team Ramudden cross-country skier beat Sweden’s Jenny Larsson (Lager 157 Ski Team) by more than a minute and 30 seconds. Norway’s Anikken Gjerde Alnæs (Team Engcon) rounded off the podium, almost 3 minutes behind her compatriot, just ahead of Swedish star Stina Nilsson (Team Ragde Charge). France’s Hanna Fine (eD System Vltava Fund Team) was twenty-first.
