Cross-country skiing: Swedes out in force at Lahti
This weekend, the 2024/2025 cross-country skiing World Cup comes to a close in Lahti, Finland. After a skate sprint on Wednesday evening in Tallinn (Estonia), the world’s big caravan has three events to look forward to, starting on Friday with a skate sprint, followed by a team sprint in the same style on Saturday before concluding the winter on Sunday with a 50-kilometre classic.
This Thursday morning, theSwedish national team revealed the names of the athletes who will represent the Scandinavian team in these finals. In the women’s sprint, Maja Dahlqvist, Johanna Hagstroem, Moa Ilar, Moa Lundgren, Emma Ribom and Maerta Rosenberg have been selected, while Edvin Anger, Emil Danielsson, Anton Grahn, George Ersson, Johan Haeggstroem and Maans Skoglund will line up in the men’s event.
For the legendary 50 kilometres, Ebba Andersson, Maja Dahlqvist, Moa Ilar, Emma Ribom, Maerta Rosenberg and Sofia Henriksson will be defending their chances in the women’s race, whileEdvin Anger, Gustaf Berglund, Leo Johansson, Jens Burmann, William Poromaa and Truls Gisselman will be the six men’s representatives.
Frida Karlsson, the outgoing world champion in the 50km skate, and Jonna Sundling, one of the great ladies of the last World Championships, also withdrew from the circuit, which means the end of their season. Speaking to SVT Sport, the latter nonetheless confided that she could be back for the Swedish championships scheduled for 3-6 April.
