Cross-country skiing: Therese Johaug on her way to the Olympics?
Four years after her last appearance at a cross-country skiing world championships, Therese Johaug made her comeback for ten days on the slopes of Trondheim (Norway). Although she was aiming for gold in the 50 kilometre skate race, the Norwegian settled for bronze.

Already silver medallist in the skiathlon, the individual classic and the women’s relay, the 36-year-old cross-country skier failed to win her fifteenth world title. However, the Scandinavian accomplished a large part of her goal by managing to compete at the highest level after more than two years away from the main circuit.
Her husband Nils Jakob Hoff was keen to highlight her return to the top in a poignant message posted on his Instagram account. ” Exercise, pregnancy, exercise, birth, exercise, breastfeeding, exercise, nights awake, exercise, menstrual disease, exercise, nappy changes, exercise, laundry, exercise, sandbox play, exercise… You’ve managed to become an uncompromising athlete in a daily life that constantly requires compromise,” he wrote.
“Thank you for all the times you got up early to train. Thank you for taking the time to do an extra workout. Thank you for allowing Kristin and I to cheer you on at a big house party. Thank you for the thrill you gave us, thank you for the adventure, and thank you for all the teddy bears,” he added.

“Congratulations on getting back into shape in an athletic body that you’ve reacquainted yourself with. Congratulations on your latest world medal, 18 years after your first! Congratulations on winning four medals out of a possible four,” he said. Congratulations on a career that has given you fourteen world titles and four Olympics. You are the best athlete I know and the best mum Kristin could ever have!
“And good luck for Cortina?”Nils Jakob Hoff on Instagram
And before concluding his lovely message of tribute, the Norwegian once again left observers in doubt by adding a post-scriptum note: “And good luck for Cortina? A mysterious indication that could raise the suspense surrounding Therese Johaug’s possible participation in the Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina (Italy), which will take place in less than a year’s time. It’s an enigma that is likely to continue to unleash the crowds over the coming months in the Nordic kingdom.
