Following the women’s 20km freestyle cross-country skiing event at the Oslo World Cup, the FIS received a complaint from the Swedish Ski Federation for the yellow card awarded to Ebba Andersson for an infringement of the classic technique. She had already received a yellow card in December at the Tour de Ski.
At the same time, the American Ski and Snowboard Association lodged an appeal concerning Jessie Diggins, who was sanctioned for the same reason.
The Appeals Committee upheld the sanction imposed on Ebba Andersson, but cancelled the one issued to Jessie Diggins. The official results will be updated.
“We are disappointed that the appeal was not accepted and we still do not agree with the jury’s decision,” cross-country skiing director Lars Oeberg said in a statement. Sweden has no intention of closing the case. ” It is important for the athletes to get answers and to understand the jury’s reasoning,” explained Oeberg.
It therefore wishes to continue the discussion in the FIS working groups and committees. ” We believe that this is an important issue to address in a wider discussion within our sport, in order to reach a consensus on what constitutes a breach of the rules in classic cross-country skiing,” explained Lars Oeberg.
