Cross-country skiing : no World Juniors for Alvar Myhlback
On Thursday, theSwedish national cross-country skiing team revealed the names of the final cross-country skiers who will represent their country from 3 to 9 February at the Junior and U23 World Championships in Schilpario (Italy).
Among them, one of the young nuggets from the Scandinavian camp is missing. Alvar Myhlback, title holder in the individual event which he won last winter in Planica (Slovenia), will not be travelling to the other side of the Alps. This significant decision can be explained by the young man’s absence from a qualifying competition organised in Bergeforsen (Sweden).

It’s a selection method that the man himself didn ‘t really appreciate. “I’m sad I won’t be at the Worlds. I don’t like the way it works,” she told SVT Sport. The Ski Classics circuit is different and allows you to really be who you are. Things evolve and the system can’t have been the same for a hundred years. This decision is really stupid.

Junior national team coach Linda Danvind Malm explains her point of view in a message to our colleagues: “You have to perform well at the Bergeforsen competitions if you hope to be selected. We respect those who follow their own path, but whatever the championship, we start from our criteria, which guarantee equal conditions”, she explains.
