Jonas Baumann announced on his Instagram account that he would be retiring from cross-country skiing at the end of the World Cup in Lahti (Finland).
“This weekend, I’ll be taking part in my last World Cup race in Lahti and retiring from the top level after this season. I’m extremely proud and grateful for this adventure, with all its ups and downs. The eight-year-old Jonas would certainly be very proud too. I’m going to go all out against the best in the world once again. I can’t wait,” reads his moving message.
He continues: “Little Jonas wanted to do a World Cup race once in his life and be on TV. Over 200 races have been added at the highest level in the last 15 years. I’ve been to eight world championships and three Olympic Games. There was even a medal at the World Championships to finish off.”

After sixteen seasons on the World Cup circuit, Jonas Baumann is leaving through the front door. This season, he took his first World Cup podium in the mixed relay in Engadin (Switzerland), finishing third. At the world cross-country skiing championships in Trondheim (Norway), he won a magnificent silver medal in the relay.
In Lahti (Finland) this Sunday, the 34-year-old cross-country skier will be at the start of the 50km classic, the last race of the season and of his career.
