Cross-country skiing : first victory of the winter for Astrid Oeyre Slind
After Mattis Stensahgen ‘s victory in the men’s race, it was the women’s cross-country skiers’ turn to compete on Monday in the individual classic at Toblach (Italy), the second stage of this twentieth edition of the Tour de Ski. On the Transalpine track, Norway struck again, this time with the victory ofAstrid Oeyre Slind.

Consistent throughout, the Norwegian took the lead mid-race after Frida Karlsson‘s ultra-fast start. Behind her, she managed her lead perfectly to take her fifth World Cup victory, the first of the winter for the 37-year-old cross-country skier.

Behind her, Austrian Teresa Stadlober took second place, seven seconds behind her, scoring her first podium of the season and the sixth of her career. The podium was completed by Jessie Diggins at 8.8 seconds, who at the same time took the overall lead in the Tour de Ski, 39 seconds clear of the day’s winner.

Behind this trio, fourth place went to Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen, relegated to more than 30 seconds behind. Sweden’s Frida Karlsson, who started very fast – in the lead after 2.1 kilometres with a lead of over eight seconds – crashed out in the final and had to settle for fifth place.

Next up was Sweden’s Moa Ilar in sixth place, ahead of Finland’s Johanna Matintalo and Norway’s Heidi Weng, whose future remains uncertain. Sweden’s Ebba Andersson finished ninth, just ahead of Germany’s Katharina Henning Dotzler, who rounded off the top 10.
A difficult day for Les Bleues
The Toblach track (Italy) didn’t smile on the French on Monday. Bornandine Julie Pierrel was the first Frenchwoman to finish, in 48th place, more than two minutes behindAstrid Oeyre Slind. Léonie Perry from Bresse follows in 49th place.

La Cluse’s Margot Tirloy, in the top 30 in the sprint, was 59th, just ahead of Dauphinoise Juliette Ducordeau, 60th. Montblanc’s Mélissa Gal finished 63rd, while Vosgienne Clémence Didierlaurent was 77th.
