Cross-country skiing : another historic performance for Hugo Lapalus, Mathis Desloges finishes in a magnificent eighth place
Last year, Hugo Lapalus finished the Tour de Ski in fine style, claiming his first career podium finish at the top of the terrible Alpe Cermis climb (Italy). It was a performance that earned him a place in the top 3 of the final overall classification. He became only the second Frenchman to do so after Maurice Manificat.

On Sunday 5 January, almost a year later, the Haut-Savoyard did it again. Fourth by a whisker at the end of an exceptional final, the cross-country skier from La Clusaz (Haute-Savoie) secured third place overall behind the impressive Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo, winner of the tour for the fourth time, and the amazing Mika Vermeulen.

It was another historic performance, as he became the first rookie in the discipline to finish in the overall box two years in a row. And the achievement was made all the more impressive by the fact that it was shared with his compatriot Mathis Desloges.

Impressively consistent since the start of the winter, the rider from Isère once again held off the best in a race he was discovering. Thirteenth at the finish after tackling walls of up to 28%, the Dauphinois even pulled off a coup in the overall rankings , finishing eighth. Tenth on the morning of this final event, the young man could hardly have dreamt of a better start.
