Cross-country skiing: third career podium for Edvin Anger
The year is off to a good start for Edvin Anger. In the classic pursuit on New Year’s Day in Toblach (Italy), the Swede scored his first podium in a World Cup distance. He started the race in fourteenth position, just over a minute behind Norway’s Harald Oestberg Amundsen. He finished second by just 2.5 seconds. A real performance. As he crossed the finish line, he raised his arms as if he had won.
His second place in this demanding format was a real surprise for the man who is considered more of a sprinter. This podium is his third in his career, but the first for Sweden in this Tour de Ski.
“It’s absolutely incredible. He’s showing just how good he is. It was only a matter of time before he could also distinguish himself in distance. He really deserves what he’s getting,” congratulated his team-mate William Poromaa in theExpressen columns.

On the final descent to the stadium, Edvin Anger even held off Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo, who tried to get rid of his troublesome neighbour. But the tall blond didn’t give in and, on the last short climb, it was he who pulled away from the five-time Olympic champion.
In the overall rankings, he is now just behind leader Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo. Thirty-six seconds separate the two men. ” It’s wonderful to see,” exclaimed Anna-Karin Strömstedt, Viaplay consultant.

For the moment, as Aftonbaldet points out, the best Swede on the Tour de Ski has not yet been officially selected for the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim (Norway). Only Jonna Sundling, Ebba Andersson, Johanna Hagstroem and Frida Karlsson have secured their tickets. “Edvin is our best sprinter. He’ll probably go to the Worlds if nothing untoward happens,” reassured national team boss Anders Bystroem. So much the better, because, as the athlete has announced, his fan club will be there. “My mum and dad have booked a big house. And I know there will be a bus from Åsarna,” he added.
The tour continues on Friday in Val di Fiemme (Italy), with a sprint,Edvin Anger‘s favourite format.
