Cross-country skiing: Jessie Diggins’ New Year’s Day demonstration
A copy and paste of the men’s race at the end of the morning. On Thursday lunchtime, the first day of the year 2026, the women’s classic 20km pursuit at the Tour de Ski in Toblach (Italy) was dominated by American Jessie Diggins in the same way that Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo had done earlier in the day.

With a large lead at the start thanks to her first place overall, the American was initially helped by the withdrawal of Norwegian Astrid Oeyre Slind, 50 seconds behind her. As a result, Jessie Diggins started the race with a 1 minute margin over her closest pursuers.

On the offensive, she got off to an incredible fast start, wearing the gold bib, to increase her lead to 1 min 19 after 4 km, i.e. one lap in five. At km 8, her margin was 1 min 35 and then 1 min 39 at km 12. At that point, Austria’s Teresa Stadlober and Sweden’s Moa Ilar were in pursuit.
Moa Ilar takes Teresa Stadlober to the podium
Jessie Diggins, stratospheric in the first race of her final year as a professional sportswoman, won solo. Ahead of the two final stages scheduled for this weekend in Val di Fiemme (Italy), she took a considerable lead in the overall standings, approaching a third final victory after those of 2021 and 2024.

At 1 min 35, Moa Ilar beat Teresa Stadlober in the sprint for second place , while Jasmi Joensuu, Heidi Weng, Johanna Matintalo, Kerttu Niskanen and Ebba Andersson followed under 2 minutes behind. Frida Karlsson was tenth at 2 min 50.
Léonie Perry is thirty-third, Julie Pierrel forty-fourth
For the French team, Léonie Perry from the Vosges, wearing number 41, had a fine race to climb back up to thirty-third place.

Julie Pierrel was forty-fourth, followed by Juliette Ducordeau in fiftieth place, Mélissa Gal in fifty-fourth, Clémence Didierlaurent in fifty-sixth and Margot Tirloy in sixtieth.
