Cross-country skiing: best distance result in Toblach for Ben Ogden
So far, Ben Ogden is having a great Tour de Ski. Ahead of the sprint in Val di Fiemme on Friday, he is in sixteenth place, 2 min 21 behind leader Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo. He sits between Doubs-based Rémi Bourdin and Sweden’s William Poromaa.
It has to be said that Toblach is a site that is very close to his heart. Last year, it was in the Italian Dolomite resort that he claimed his first World Cup podium.
After the 20km skate, which took in a brand new course, the American, who finished 9th, had no hesitation in declaring in a press release from his federation: “Today will be remembered as my best long-distance race. I’m really pleased with that and with the progress I’ve made recently.” It was his best ever distance ranking.

In the inaugural sprint, Jessie Diggins‘ compatriot, who also had an excellent run, had already made it through to the final. He finished only sixth because of a broken pole. “I managed the race well and skied very intelligently. It’s a shame the way it ended, but what can you do? It’s all part of the game.”
At the end of 2024, Ben Ogden, also 26th in the 15km mass-start classic, took third place overall, behind Norwegians Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo and Harald Oestberg Amundsen. His deficit was just over a minute.

At the beginning of 2025, he lost ground. On New Year’s Day, he dropped out of the top 20 and dropped back to, as we said, sixteenth. He remains fifth in the best sprinter classification and seventh for the best climber title, which currently goes to Great Britain’s Andrew Musgrave (after the departure of Harald Oestberg Amundsen).
The classic sprint in Val di Fiemme on 3 January could be his chance to get back on track. His best result so far is fourth place on 9 December 2023 in Östersund (Sweden).
This Friday, at precisely 12:46, the 24-year-old moustachioed racer will wear number 16. In qualifying, he will start after Norway’s Even Northug and before Switzerland’s Janik Riebli.
