Cross-country skiing: Therese Johaug takes silver in the skiathlon
On Sunday, during the skiathlon at the World Championships in Trondheim (Norway), Therese Johaug lost her duel with Ebba Andersson. “Nobody knew who had won when they crossed the finish line. We had to resort to a photo finish”, write our TV2 colleagues. When the result was made official (which happened quite quickly), an entire nation was knocked on the head.
“What a tragedy,” shouted Jann Post, the commentator from NRK who was broadcasting the race.
NRK, which was broadcasting the race. “It was close to victory, but that’s the way it is. It was a bad performance and I can only blame myself,” said Therese Johaug on the television channel after seeing the images of the final sprint. ” I missed the last few stages,” she added.

For Martin Johnsrud Sundby, now a consultant, his Swedish rival was no better in the last few centimetres of the course: “They both want to get their upper bodies as far forward as possible, but in cross-country skiing, it’s the legs that count. Johaug and Andersson both have very poor posture”, he analyses.
“Therese Johaug did everything she could, but Ebba Andersson was unbeatable today”, admitted another consultant, Torgeir Bjoern, in a playful tone. ” There was someone better,” said Johaug’s brother Karstein, who was interviewed by NTB reporters just after the finish.
For the daily Dagbladet, Ebba Andersson drew the longest straw.

“Drama” is the word most often used to describe the skiathlon and its outcome. But what a thriller! Therese Johaug’s husband, Nils Jakob Hoff, who watched the scene with his daughter Kristin, had an unforgettable moment. “It was the most exciting thing I’ve ever seen in a stadium. It was a crazy race,” he confessed.
His wife, who won silver, said she was even more motivated in her quest for gold. She was no less touched. After the awards ceremony, she couldn’t hold back her tears.
