Cross-country skiing : Jessie Diggins the strongest
A few minutes after Norway’s domination of the men’s skiathlon, it was the women’s cross-country skiers’ turn to battle it out on the Granåsen track at the Trondheim (Norway) cross-country skiing world cup on Saturday.

In a race made difficult by the high pace set by the Swedes right from the start, American Jessie Diggins used her race sense to claim her first skiathlon victory and her first in Trondheim (Norway). With a yellow bib on her back, the 34-year-old cross-country skier managed her race perfectly.
Despite a scare at the ski change – when she fell with Frida Karlsson – she remained well placed without putting in any unnecessary effort. In the final climb, the three-time winner of the Crystal Globe made her mark with a superb acceleration that allowed her to take the lead and get Heid Weng out of the slipstream.
Behind the American, Norway’s Heidi Weng took second place, securing her third World Cup podium of the winter. The podium was completed by Sweden’s Ebba Andersson, who returned to the track where she became world champion in the same format last March. Very aggressive throughout the 20km, she tried several times to break away on the various hills of the course, without success.

Next up were Sweden’s Moa Ilar and Frida Karlsson, fourth and fifth respectively. On home soil, Astrid Oeyre Slind and Kristin Austgulen Fosnæs were sixth and seventh. Austria’s Teresa Stadlober was eighth, ahead of Sweden’s Emma Ribom. The top 10 was completed by Norway’s Karoline Simpson-Larsen, who was unable to emulate her partner, biathlete Johan-Olav Botn.
It should be noted that there were no French women at the start following the withdrawal of Léonie Perry, who was ill, and Delphine Claudel due to physical discomfort.
