Cross-country skiing : second World Cup victory for Johanna Hagstroem
Early on Friday afternoon, the cross-country skiers were in Trondheim (Norway) to contest the second World Cup classic sprint of the winter, a week after the one in Ruka (Finland), won by Norway’s Kristine Staavas Skistad.
In this second explanation of the season, the race was completely crazy. Between crashes and broken poles, it was Sweden’s Johanna Hagstroem who managed to get through to win. Starting in the lead, the Scandinavian led the entire race, avoiding all the pitfalls, to claim her second World Cup victory after her success last winter in Ruka (Finland).

Behind her, her compatriot Emma Ribom took second place. The 28-year-old cross-country skier bounced back perfectly after her difficult weekend in Ruka (Finland).
Linn Svahn, who returned to competition after suffering concussion on the same Granåsen track at the last world championships, rounded off the podium. Caught up in a crash with Germany’s Laura Gimmler, the Scandinavian had a difficult start to the final, but she put in a fine finish to claim her first podium of the winter.

The world champion in the discipline, Jonna Sundling finished just off the podium to complete this Swedish quadruple. The Scandinavian rider had a very complicated final : a broken pole in the first collision followed by a fall at the top of the last bump deprived her of any chance of a podium finish.

Norway’s Ingrid Bergene Aabrekk took fifth place in the final, her best ever World Cup performance after an eighteenth-place finish last winter in the Lillehammer (Norway) skate sprint. Germany’s Laura Gimmler rounded off the rankings in this final race.
Norwegian Kristine Staavas Skistad, winner of the first sprint of the winter season, failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals .
