A few minutes after Jonna Sundling’s recital in the women’s sprint skate qualifier, it was the turn of the cross-country skiers to take to the track at the world cross-country skiing championships in Trondheim (Norway) on Thursday. Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo delighted the crowds in front of a capacity crowd.
On very wet snow, the Norwegian didn’t hesitate to take first place in this qualifying round. This was the first step on the road to a fourth consecutive world title in this discipline. Behind him, Edvin Anger confirmed that he was also in good form. The Swede finished just one second behind his Scandinavian rival, while Switzerland’s Valerio Grond took third place.
In the French ranks, the best performance of this first round was to the credit of Lucas Chanavat, sixth on the line. Jules Chappaz was close behind him in eighth place, just a few seconds ahead of his team-mate Rémi Bourdin, who finished a very good eleventh. Twenty-fifth-placed Richard Jouve will also be in the thick of the action in the final stages.
