On Wednesday, Simon Sancet from San Marino made history by becoming the first San Marino citizen to take part in the world cross-country skiing championships. In the qualifying race for the World Championships in Trondheim (Norway), an individual classic over 7.5 km, the Doubiste skier had one goal: to score less than 300 FIS points to secure his ticket for the 2026 Olympics.
At 39 years of age, he nevertheless clocked the 60th fastest time of the day, 6 min 4 sec 5 behind China’s Kuerbanjiang Wuerkaixi, the winner of this qualifying event. Registering 326.65 FIS points, Simon Sancet, coached by his friend Frédéric Jean in this rather crazy project, failed to achieve his objective.

Despite the disappointment, the qualified swimmer will be at the start of the sprint skate qualifier on Thursday morning.
