Cross-country skiing: uncertainty reigns in the German squad
The cross-country skiing world cup in Les Rousses (Jura) gets underway this Friday. The programme includes individual skate races, classic sprints on Saturday and, finally, a classic mass-start to round off the event.
The German team will be led in the men’s race by Friedrich Moch, who recently finished sixth in the Tour de Ski. Despite this, he remains cautious about his condition. “The Tour de Ski was quite exhausting. It wasn’t until the start of the week that I felt sharp and fresh again for the first time during training. I’d like to build on the success of the Val di Fiemme races,” he said in a press release from the German Ski Association.

In the women’s race, Katharina Hennig is making her comeback after missing out on the Tour de Ski. “It was definitely the right decision not to take part. Now my health is good again. I missed a good week and a half of training because of my cold around Christmas. I’m heading in the right direction. I’m sure I’ll improve from race to race. The next World Cups before the World Championships are still very important for me.”
The atmosphere at Les Rousses still fresh in the memory
In 2023, at the first World Cup in Les Rousses, the atmosphere left its mark on the athletes present.
“Two years ago, the atmosphere in Les Rousses was truly incredible and memorable. It’s very lively, the French fans are very passionate and very vocal,” recalls Friedrich Moch. His compatriot Pia Fink agrees: “When I think back to Les Rousses, I think of all the spectators. They really created a great atmosphere on the track. I hope that will be the case again this year!”

For Katharina Hennig, it’s her first time in the Jura, but the atmosphere has reached her ears: “Everyone has told me about the great atmosphere. I’m really looking forward to it,” she concludes.
