The verdict is in for Erik Valnes. This Wednesday, during official training for the cross-country skiing world championships in Trondheim (Norway), the Norwegian was forced to abandon his partners after feeling pain following intensive sessions.

And after several tests, the bad news came for the Scandinavian. His absence from the sprint skate scheduled for Thursday has been confirmed, as he is suffering from back pain. “Erik felt pain in his lower back during training today. The pain will prevent Erik from achieving a normal level of performance in the sprint,” confided Ove Feragen, the national team doctor, in a press release.
In the end, it will be his compatriot Ansgar Evensen who will be at the start of the world event, replacing the man who could have been among the medal contenders.
