Nordic Combined: In September, He Will Train with His Teammates
This weekend, the best athletes in Nordic combined will participate in the Summer Grand Prix in Tschagguns, in Vorarlberg (Austria). An international event in which the Italian Alessandro Pittin will not participate. Last fall, he was injured during a similar event in Oberwiesenthal (Germany). A torn cruciate ligament forced him to withdraw from the circuit even before the start of the winter season. After a long rehabilitation, the athlete has returned to the trampolines, as indicated by the FISI technical director, Ivo Pertile, last month.
Our colleagues at Fondo Italia were able to speak with Alessandro Pittin, who confirmed the good news. “The rehabilitation process went well, I still feel a bit of pain in the final stages, both in extension and flexion, but over time, this aspect is also improving. I have started practicing all activities again, and my general condition is already quite good,” said the veteran who had shone a few years ago in Chaux-Neuve (Doubs).
“An injury is always a difficult ordeal to overcome. Unfortunately, in a situation like this, there’s not much you can do other than be patient and work. In difficult times, I was lucky to be able to enjoy my family,” he added.
For Alessandro Pittin, the first jump was “a sort of liberation”. He didn’t know how his knee would react. In the end, there was no problem.
Until the end of August, the Italian continues to follow a personalized program. Next month, he will rejoin his teammates. “I hope to be ready for the first stages of the World Cup, even if it will probably take some time to fully get back into the racing rhythm,” he clarified.
Alessandro Pittin sets no goals, even though the World Championships in Trondheim (Norway) are on the mind of the only Italian Olympic medalist in the discipline. However, he has no illusions. The Scandinavian Jarl Magnus Riiber is expected to dominate the competition once again. ” In my opinion, Riiber is the strongest Nordic combined athlete of all time and he will be very difficult to beat,” he said.
