17:00. Not invited to the Olympic Games, the combined events on the world circuit gathered at the Lillehammer Continental Cup to keep up the pace, while the World Cup is on break for a month. Six members of the world’s top 10 made the trip to Norway, and logically found themselves at the forefront of the gundersen on Saturday 14 February.

In this high-flying race, Norway’s Ida Marie Hagen kept up her usual form and won by a wide margin over American Alexa Brabec (+49 sec) and her compatriot Marte Leinan Lund (+56 sec). Two Frenchwomen finished in the top 10: Léna Brocard finished 5th (+1 min 56) and Romane Baud 9th after taking the 5th jump (+2 min 33). Marion Droz Vincent, who is used to the secondary circuit, was unable to cope with the competition. After starting 14th, she finished 26th in the 5km cross-country race (+5:00).

The men’s 10km race had a much smaller field, but was suited to a continental cup. Much tighter, with a four-man sprint over the line, it saw Germany’s David Mach dominate Norway’s Kasper Moen Flatla (+0 sec 5) and Austria’s Paul Walcher (+2 sec). Not selected for the Olympic Games, Edgar Vallet, Tom Rochat and Martin Lubin finished 22nd (+1 min 49), 25th (+2 min 04) and 29th (+2 min 13).
