The FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation) announced the calendar for the 2025/2026 Nordic combined season on 8 May in Vilamoura (Portugal). For the first time, ski flying will be included in the World Cup, with a stopover in Kulm (Austria) on 27 February 2026. An announcement that has excited a large number of combined racers.
For Austrian Franz-Josef Rehrl, it will be his first: “I always said I’d wait until it was a World Cup race. I’ve been patient enough. I’m sure there will be some very long jumps,” he enthuses to the FIS. It’s also a first for Germany’s Wendelin Thannheimer: “This will be my first flight on skis, so I’m really looking forward to next season. Flying has always been my dream.
For Ilkka Herola, however, it won’t be a first. The Finn has already served as an opener on a World Cup stage in Planica (Slovenia). “I’ve been waiting for this for so long that my expectations are very high.
Estonian Kristjan Ilves reminds us that this will be a special moment for the athletes. “I’m obviously very happy to finally be able to jump off a ski jump. It will be a spectacular moment, both for us, the athletes, and for the fans.”
