Nordic combined: the end of the road for Jarl Magnus Riiber?
King of the Nordic combined for many winters now, will Norway’s Jarl Magnus Riiber put the arrow in before he turns 30? In an interview with Dagbladet, the Oslo native raised the possibility for the first time. “I don’t have much time left as a top-level sportsman, he confessed. I’m looking at least as far ahead as the 2026 Olympics.”
As for the future, Jarl Magnus Riiber is not stopping at anything: stopping, continuing for two or four years, with the 2030 French Alps Olympics in his sights. “I’ve been through a lot and I’ve already won a lot. I need to have ambitious goals and something to motivate me. If that’s not the case, I’ll be satisfied with what I’ve achieved and maybe I’ll move on to something else,” he admits.
As well as motivation and objectives, the Norwegian could also be forced to stop because of his health: his shoulders and knees are creaking. The double paternity of the man with 73 World Cup victories will also be a factor to take into account.
As he awaits the Olympic deadline in February 2026, Jarl Magnus Riiber will be looking to win further world gold medals this winter in Trondheim (Norway).
