Nordic combined: Léna Brocard just missed out on a great success
At the end of last week, at the Triple in Seefeld (Austria), the French women’s Nordic combined came very close to claiming their first ever World Cup podium. Fifth in the mass-start and individual compact, then sixth in the gundersen, Léna Brocard flirted with the much sought-after top 3.

“I’m really happy because it was cool to have consistency in my results. The good thing about the weekend was that I was able to enjoy myself again on the springboard by loosening up my jumps, she explained to Nordic Magazine. It’s been complicated since the start of the season and I’ve tried to rebuild to get back to my level. It was going in the right direction and, when I got to Seefeld, I managed to relax my jumps and everything I’d put in place since the start of the season paid off. It was a real relief to be able to do jumps at my level again.”
Heading for Otepää this week
Although her form on cross-country skis wasn’t at its best in Austria and she was a little short of what she needed to be at the front, Léna Brocard believes that “it’s really cool to be out there fighting”.
This was particularly the case in the compact chase, which began in third place. “It shows that I’m on the right track for what’s to come,” she enthuses.

This week, the Autran native follows up with the World Cup in Otepää (Estonia). “There will still be the three formats on the programme, so it will be an opportunity to continue to gain experience before the world championships and to continue on my merry way,” she concludes.
