15:59. It’s been almost two years since Maël Tyrode achieved such a performance. On Saturday 13 December, the Frenchman took 6th place in the Gundersen continental cup in Ruka (Finland). His first competition of the winter.
After starting 19th, 1 min 21 from the front, he constantly closed the gap on his rivals: 14th after 2.5 km, 12th at mid-race, 8th after 7 km. At the finish line, he finished just7 seconds behind the third-placed rider. Czech rider Lukas Dolezal had started 1 min 08 before him. On the track, only Norwegian Andreas Ottesen (8th) was faster than him.

Germany’s Tristan Sommerfeldt, 5th after the jump, won ahead of Austria’s Lukas Greiderer and the Czech Republic’s Lukas Dolezal.
He finished ahead of France’s Mattéo Baud (15th), Tom Rochat (33rd) and Lubin Martin (34th). They will all have a chance to exact revenge in the same format on Sunday (jumping at 9 a.m., cross-country at 2 p.m.).

At the age of 25, Maël Tyrode has 16 World Cup starts to his name, the last of which was in Lahti (Finland) in March 2025. And he has never done better than 31st place at this level.
