Nordic combined: Léna Brocard confirms her comeback
After a difficult start to the season on the jumps, Léna Brocard rediscovered her sensations at the World Cup stage in Oberhof (Germany). 9th in the reserve jump on Friday, 6th in the compact jump on Saturday, she finished 5th in the gundersen jump thanks to a flight of 96.5 m on Sunday 18 January.
5h30 waiting time between the jump and the bottom
She will start 29 seconds behind the Finnish Minja Korhonen(number 1). Between them will be the American Alexa Brabec (2nd, +14 sec), the Norwegian Ida Marie Hagen (3rd, +20 sec) and the German Nathalie Armbruster (4th, +25 sec). It’s now up to the Frenchwoman to hold off her rivals for as long as possible, or else catch up with one of the chasing groups. She didn’t manage to do that the day before, retiring at the end of the race.

After a long wait (5h33 between the end of the jumping competition and the start of the cross-country skiing), the competitors will start at 2:35 pm. Norway’s Marte Leinan Lund will start 17th (+2 min 08), France’s Romane Baud 18th (+2 min 15) and American Tara Geraghty-Moats 26th (+3 min 36, in a wave 2 min 50). It should be noted that Norway’s Ingrid Laate will not be taking part in the second act, due to a disqualification on the jump (wrong ski size).
Laurent Muhlethaler withdraws
In the men’s event, Marco Heinis bounced back on the springboard. The day after his disappointing 27th place on the compact jump, the Frenchman finished 7th this time, falling back to 98m. He will set off 55 seconds behind the leader at 3.45pm, but will have to look to the back because of the tight gaps: the 20th-placed competitor will be just 21 seconds behind him at the start. Maël Tyrode (31st) and Edgar Vallet (34th) will start 1 min 46 behind, but will have the opportunity to catch a good train on their skis, particularly behind Germany’s Vinzenz Geiger (27th at 1 min 40).

Mattéo Baud , on the other hand, is struggling and will only start 54th out of 58, at 3 min 02 (in a wave at 2 min 30). After several complicated races and a break marred by injury, Laurent Muhlethaler has decided not to take part in today’s race.

This gundersen competition was dominated by Austria’s Franz-Josef Rehrl, ahead of his compatriot Thomas Rettenegger (2nd, +18 sec) and the surprising Norwegian Einar Luraas Oftebro (3rd, +40 sec). Austria’s Stefan Rettenegger (4th, +47 sec) and Norway’s Jens Luraas Oftebro (6th, +52 sec) will be in a good position before the pursuit, unlike Austria’s Johannes Lamparter (13th) and Germany’s Julian Schmid (14th), who will have a time gap of 1 min 11 at the start.
