Nordic combined: a first World Cup victory for Yuna Kasai
The surprise came from Yuna Kasai in the women’s mass start of the Nordic Combined World Cup in Otepää (Estonia). Fifth at the end of the cross-country section at the start of the afternoon, the Japanese skier put in a superb performance on the springboard to claim her first career victory.

With a jump of 93.5 metres, she relegated her sister Haruka Kasai (91 metres) to second place at 2.1 points and Germany’s Jenny Nowak (91 metres) to third at 2.3 points.
The favourites have cracked
The two leaders of the circuit, Ida Marie Hagen and the yellow bib of Nathalie Armbruster, collapsed on the Estonian ski jump. The Norwegian, in the lead at the end of the cross-country mass-start, fell and could do no better than 89 metres. She finished an anecdotal fifteenth.

The German (89 metres), meanwhile, failed to finish at the foot of the podium. The only Frenchwoman competing, Léna Brocard (85.5 metres) was sixth and achieved another top 6, the fifth of her winter.
