Following the women’s 5-kilometre mass-start, the men’s combined event took to the track for the opening competition of this weekend’s Nordic Combined World Cup in Ramsau (Austria).

And at the end of a thrilling race, it was Jens Luraas Oftebro who came out on top and will have to defend his first place on the springboard this afternoon. The Norwegian beat his compatriots Aleksander Skoglund and Joergen Graabak. Current world number one Jarl Magnus Riiber was only seventh, more than 23 seconds behind the leader.

In the French clan, Gaël Blondeau put in a fine performance on his return to the elite, finishing twentieth in this mass-start. Edgar Vallet wasn’t far behind in twenty-sixth place, while Laurent Muhlethaler and Marco Heinis finished thirty-second and thirty-sixth respectively.
