Nordic Combined : a jumping competition contested in the wind
It was in difficult wind conditions that the Nordic combined began their second event at this World Cup in Ruka (Finland), the day after the first victory of the imperial Jarl Magnus Riiber. And this time, the Norwegian did not dominate the gundersen ski jumping competition.
Indeed, it was Germany’s Johannes Rydzek who came out on top. With a jump of 142 metres, the combination from the other side of the Rhine even gave him a solid lead ahead of the cross-country ski pursuit, which starts at 2.15pm. Behind him, Austria’s Thomas Rettenegger (132.5 metres) was relegated to 47 seconds, while Japan’s Ryota Yamamoto (135.5 metres) was third, one minute and seven seconds behind the winner.
At the foot of the podium was Jarl Magnus Riiber (136 metres), who set off one minute and eight seconds behind the leader. In fact, some of his rivals for the overall win finished further back. These include Johannes Lamparter (106.5 metres), who finished fifty-first and got caught up in a gust of wind, giving himself quite a scare.
Among the French gymnasts, Marco Heinis was the best placed at the end of the competition. The Doubiste native finished seventeenth after a jump landing at 127.5 metres. The young jumper is just four seconds outside the top 15. Behind him, Laurent Muhlethaler (122 metres) and Mattéo Baud (124 metres) were close behind in twenty-sixth and twenty-eighth places. Edgar Vallet (104.5 metres) rounded off the French ranking in fifty-second place.
