The Germans are in fine form at this first Nordic Combined World Cup of the winter. In Ruka (Finland), after their resounding hat-trick the day before, they once again took the lead in the mass start.
Julian Schmid was impressive in the final and this time got the better of his compatriot Johannes Rydzek. Separated by just nine tenths, the two men finished ahead of Austria’s Johannes Lamparter, while world number one Jarl Magnus Riiber only finished ninth in the first race of the day.
Before the jump, Mattéo Baud was also well placed. Thirteenth on the line, just two seconds from the top 10, the Frenchman will be in good spirits as he sets off to play a nice trick on the springboard in the afternoon. Behind him, Edgar Vallet was thirty-fifth, Laurent Muhlethaler fortieth and Marco Heinis forty-ninth.
