Nordic skiing: Austria fails to create the right conditions to launch Ramsau/Bischofshofen into the World Cup race
Last week, we learned that Slovenia had submitted a bid to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to organise the 2031 Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica (Slovenia). At the same time, Austria was preparing to launch Ramsau (Austria) and Bischofshofen (Austria) into the race.
A project that unfortunately fell through, Ski Austria revealed in a press release at noon today. Financial issues prevented the Austrian bid from being officially submitted.

“This project has once again demonstrated the potential of these sites and of Nordic sports in Austria. On the international stage, an Austrian bid would have been particularly welcome, as numerous discussions have clearly shown, says Christian Scherer, Secretary General of the ÖSV. At the same time, we understand the current economic and political challenges, but we hope that it will be possible to host major sporting events of this scale in Austria again in the future. Not only do they stimulate the economy and society, they also generate enthusiasm for sport.”
