Nordic skiing: what if the Worlds came back to Planica in 2031?
TheSlovenian Ski Association announced this Thursday afternoon that it had submitted a bid to organise the 2031 Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica (Slovenia). Eight years after the success of the 2023 event, Slovenia is hoping to bring the event back to its shores.
“After the success of the 2023 World Championships, which, in addition to top-level sporting performances, provided us with valuable experience and knowledge, we are ready to take the next step. With the approval of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the reliable support of key partners, we are embarking on a new cycle for the organisation of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships,” revealed Enzo Smrekar, President of the Slovenian Ski Association, in a press release.
The final decision will be taken in May 2026 at the FIS Congress in Belgrade (Serbia). No other bid has yet been announced.
