Para biathlon: two more podium finishes for Les Bleus in Canada
This Saturday, the Para Biathlon World Cup in Canmore (Canada) continued in Alberta with sprint pursuits. At the end of a long day of competition, the French team took two further podium places.
First, in the visually impaired category, Anthony Chalençon (guided by Florian Michelon) came second. With 10/10, he was only beaten in the final by Ukrainian Oleksandr Kazik (guided by Serhii Kucheriavyi), also with 10/10. Germany’s Lennart Mattis Volkert (guided by Nils Kolb), with 7/10, completed the podium.
In the same category, but among the women, her compatriot Leonie Maria Walter (guided by Christian Krasman), at 8/10, dominated the day ahead of the Czech Carina Edlinger (8/10) and Johanna Recktenwald (guided by Emily Rose Weiss), at 9/10.
The other French podium finish of the day came from Bornandin Benjamin Daviet, in the standing category. With just one mistake on the mats, he took third place in this Canadian sprint pursuit won on home soil by Mark Arendz (9/10) ahead of Ukraine’s Serhii Romaniuk (8/10). Beaufort’s Karl Tabouret (9/10) was fourth.
On the women’s side, Canada’s Natalie Wilkie (9/10) won ahead of Ukraine’s Liudmyla Liashenko (9/10) and Oleksandra Kononova (7/10). France’s Chloé Pinto, ninth in the qualifying round, was not allowed to take part in the final eight.
Finally, in the seated category, it was the United States who triumphed with wins for Aaron Pike (9/10) – ahead of Joshua Sweeney (10/10) and Taras Rad (8/10) – and Kendall Gretsch (10/10) – stronger than Yunji Kim (8/10) and Oksana Masters (10/10).
