Para biathlon: first race of the winter and already a podium for Anthony Chalençon
On Thursday, the 2025/2026 Para Biathlon World Cup kicked off in Canmore (Canada) with the sprints. In the visually impaired category, Morzine’s Anthony Chalençon (guided by Florian Michelon) shone, taking third place and a place on the podium in his first race of the winter.
Despite an 8/10, with an error on each shot, he was only beaten by Ukrainians Anatolii Kovalevskyi (guided by Oleksandr Mukshyn), winner at 10/10, and Iaroslav Reshetynskyi (guided by Dmytro Drahun), second at 10/10. The podium was held to just 11.9 seconds.
The women’s race was won at 9/10 by Germany’s Leonie Maria Walter (guided by Florian Winker) ahead of her compatriot Johanna Recktenwald (guided by Emily Rose Weiss), who scored 10/10, and the Czech Republic’s Carina Edlinger (8/10).
Benjamin Daviet one breath away from a podium finish too
In the standing category, the podium was not far away for Bornandin Benjamin Daviet. Author of the 9/10, the Montblanc native with multiple Paralympic titles took fourth place, less than 2 seconds behind the top 3.
Mark Arendz (10/10), on home soil, won ahead of Ukrainians Serhii Romaniuk (7/10) and Dmytro Sereda (7/10). Karl Tabouret (4/10), who had great difficulty with the targets, took twelfth place on the day.
Also in front of her home crowd, Natalie Wilkie (10/10) won the women’s race 16.6 seconds ahead of Ukraine’s Liudmyla Liashenko (10/10) and 18.7 seconds ahead of fellow Canadian Brittany Hudak (10/10). Ninth place for Beaufort native Chloé Pinto (8/10).
Oksana Masters and Collin Cameron on top in the seated category
At the start of the day, Canadian Collin Cameron (9/10) won the men’s race 22.9 seconds ahead of American Aaron Pike (10/10). Ukrainian Taras Rad (9/10) completed the podium.
The women’s sprint was won by American Oksana Masters. Despite an 8/10, the Paralympic superstar beat her compatriot Kendall Gretsch (10/10) by 31 sec 3. Third place went to Canada’s Christina Picton (8/10).
