Para biathlon: victory for Karl Tabouret at the Jakuszyce World Cup
On Thursday, the third and final stage of the para biathlon world cup kicked off in Jakuszyce (Poland) with a series of sprints. In the standing sprint, Karl Tabouret from Beaufort scored a superb victory. Despite shooting 9/10, the Frenchman beat Ukraine’s Serfaym Drahun (10/10), who was 8.5 seconds ahead after the two shoots, by 4.1 seconds at the finish line.
Grygorii Vovchynskyi (10/10), another Ukrainian, completes the podium at 19 dsec 9. In the crystal globe group, Canadian Mark Arendz (8/10) is fourth and Benjamin Daviet (7/10) ninth. The Bornandin remains in the lead overall, but just one point ahead of his North American rival with two races to go.
The women’s standing sprint was won by Canadian Natalie Wilkie (10/10), the day after her twenty-fifth birthday, ahead of Ukrainian Iryna Bui (10/10) and American Sydney Peterson (9/10).
In the visually impaired category, Morzine’s Anthony Chalençon (guided by Florian Michelon) had a difficult race at 7/10. He finished eighth in a race dominated by Ukraine. Maksym Murashkovskyi (guided by Vitaliy Trush) won ahead of Oleksandr Kazik (guided by Serhii Kucheriavyi) and Iaroslav Reshetynskyi (guided by Dmytro Drahun).
On the women’s side, it was Czech Simona Bubenickova (guided by David Srutek) who took victory, well ahead of Germany’s Johanna Recktenwald (guided by Emily Rose Weiss) and her compatriot Carina Edlingerova (guided by Alexandr Patava).
In the seated category, Ukrainian Taras Rad (9/10) won the men’s race by just 1 sec 5 ahead of American Joshua Sweeney (10/10). South Korea’s Eui-Hyun Shin (9/10), soon to be 46, took third place at 23.4 seconds, just ahead of American Aaron Pike (8/10).
The women’s sprint was dominated by American legend Oksana Masters (8/10). Coming out of the second shot behind her compatriot Kendall Gretsch (9/10), she finally won by 13 sec 6. South Korea’s Yunji Kim (9/10) was third.
