Rollerski: U16 sprint skate gold for Giulia Lathuraz
Several hours after the qualifying rounds, the final stages of the U16 skate sprints at the French Rollerski Championships took place early on Saturday afternoon in Autrans (Isère).
Fourth after the morning heat, Giulia Lathuraz from Savoie asserted herself with each lap until she triumphed in the final, beating Romane Schweitzer from the Vosges by a whisker on the line to claim the national gold medal for the speciality.
“I really wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t set out with that in mind, but to give it my best shot and it worked. It’s just too good,” she enthused to Nordic Magazine after her victory.
Manon Pradel Mayer from Auvergne took bronze ahead of Romane Durand from Prémanon, Emma Petitjean from the Jura and Léa Barbier from Féclaz.
Elio Faivre ahead of two Vosgians
On the men’s side, it was Elio Faivre, a member of Prémanon SC, who took the title of French U16 champion. After finishing second in the qualifying he won his quarter-final and then his semi-final.
As a result, he went into the final confidently, dominating ahead of Eliott Maury (silver) and Achille Henocq (bronze) from the Vosges.
“It’s enormous! I put in some great performances when I was in the younger categories and I’m really pleased to be able to do it again,” he said afterwards. It was quite a complicated day, but I managed it as best I could, recovering well, and it went well.
