Rollerski: victory for a Norwegian at the French championships
On Sunday afternoon, during the women’s 20km mass-start classic at the French Rollerski Championships in Autrans (Isère), three female cross-country skiers were quick off the mark: Norway’s Magni Smedaas (Team Eksjöhus) and France’s Hanna Fine (Team Slavia Pojistovna Robinson Trentino) and Léonie Perry.

After one lap out of three, they had a margin of around twenty seconds over the peloton and then more than a minute after two loops. The first three places were then assured and it was finally, and logically, the Scandinavian rider who got the better of her rivals in the final kilometres.

It was a tough race, with 20km totally flat, so you had to push all the way, with no rest,” the Norwegian told Nordic Magazine afterwards. And the headwind was really tough! Hanna Fine and Léonie Perry were very strong, and I tried several times to get away, but I just couldn’t do it. Then, with 2km to go, they slowed down a bit, and I thought I’d better try again.
Senior and U23 gold medals for Léonie Perry
Although she won, Magni Smedaas, girlfriend of Cluse Théo Schely, did not win any medals at the French championships.

Vosgienne Léonie Perry, a solid second at 10.8 seconds, was crowned French senior and U23 mass-start classic champion . Third at 24 sec 3, Chartrous’ Hanna Fine took silver.

“It’s just great! It makes me even more determined to carry on with this approach until this winter and hopefully win some great selections,” said the La Bresse-based cross-country skier after the race. I’m also really happy to be racing alongside great champions like Magni [Smedaas].
Clémence Didierlaurent completes the podium
Further back, more than 2 minutes behind, Vosgienne Clémence Didierlaurent won the women’s sprint to take bronze, just ahead of Liv Coupat, who won silver in the U23 category.

Ariane Pignot, sixth, got a tan in the U23 category, followed by Léonie Harivel (TNE Coste – Fromageries Marcel Petite), Manon Favre Bonvin (Haute-Savoie Nordic Team), Daphné Patois (i3 Ski Team) and Juliette Ducordeau in the day’s top 10.

Next up are Delphine Claudel in twelfth place, Léna Quintin in thirteenth, Flora Dolci in fourteenth, Justine Gaillard in fifteenth, Laurie Flochon-Joly (Team Futura) in sixteenth, Julie Pierrel in seventeenth, Mélissa Gal in eighteenth, Cloé Pagnier in twentieth and Margot Tirloy in twenty-first.
