Rollerski: the double for Mathis Desloges
Mathis Desloges, a cross-country skier from the Isère region, hit back in style on Sunday afternoon. In the streets of La Bresse (Vosges), the U23 world champion in the free mass-start actually managed to win the summer national title in the classic individual 10-kilometre race. His victory came a year after his success in Arçon (Doubs)… in the individual skate race.
“I had last year’s title in mind, so it’s great to keep it, he told Nordic Magazine. I’m also keeping it within Team Vercors Isère, with whom I travelled this weekend and with whom it’s a pleasure to do some training and courses”.
A member of the French senior team since the spring, Mathis Desloges was still suffering from an illness that forced him to cut short the altitude training camp at Font-Romeu (Pyrénées-Orientales). ” With the staff, we thought it would be wiser than to stay and be constantly out of step with the group, which was in good shape, he reveals. So I went back to training at home, but of course I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel after this illness”.
“Winter is getting closer and closer, so to see that the body is responding well to the training we’re giving it certainly bodes well”.
Mathis Desloges was determined to run a fast and complete race from start to finish, and showed that he is in good shape with less than two months to go before the start of the World Cup. “Winter is getting closer and closer, so to see that the body is responding well to the training we’re giving it certainly bodes well. It helps you get your bearings before the first races on snow, and that’s very reassuring”, he enthuses.
Training this week in his home town of Villard-de-Lans (Isère), the Dauphinois will join the French team next Monday in Corrençon-en-Vercors (Isère).
“This will be our last training session before the snow arrives in Bessans at the beginning of November, says Mathis Desloges. We’ll be doing quality work and lots of high-intensity rehearsals. I’m already looking forward to this get-together with a team that’s having a great time ! “
