Ski Jumping: A Sport Attracting the Germans
When one thinks of sports in Germany, football often comes to mind, but the country also knows how to get excited about many other disciplines. Throughout the year 2023, IfD Allensbach conducted a study on Germans’ favorite sports based on data from Statista. Revealed by the site Suedkurier, the results highlight ski jumping.
Overall, 12.5% of respondents declared their love for the sport, making it the second favorite sport among Germans. In the country, interest in ski jumping was even higher in recent years, with 13.3% in 2022 and 13.7% in 2021.
It’s the Four Hills Tournament or Vierschanzentournee for German speakers that excites our neighbors the most. Every year after Christmas, the legendary competition, held between Oberstdorf (Germany), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany), Innsbruck (Austria), and Bischofshofen (Austria), particularly thrills the supporters.
Unsurprisingly, the first place is secured by football, which garners 28.7% of the votes. Athletics ranks third (10.6%), just ahead of handball (10.5%). Neck and neck, biathlon narrowly falls short and takes the fifth position in the survey (10.4%).
