Ski jumping: Soon on the Professional Circuit?
In 2019, Andreas Stjernen ended his professional career on the ski jumping hills. Although the Norwegian jumper has hung up his skis, he has not said goodbye to high-level sport. At 36 years old today, the native of Levanger (Norway) has discovered a new passion: golf.
A discipline he has been practicing since the early 2000s and that has taken more and more place in his life in recent years. In the columns of NRK, the retired ski jumper spoke about his determination: “When I do something, I give my maximum to be as strong as possible”. A winning mentality that is reflected in his performances. In a few days, Andreas Stjernen will compete in a qualifying tournament for the Omega European Masters.
The competition, which is part of the European Tour, begins on September 5 in Switzerland at Crans-Montana. On the same course, he will face two other golfers to secure a spot on the Swiss greens. “Winning this last qualifying round would be a huge pride for me. I will meet two tough opponents, I am not the favorite, but I have a one in three chance,” adds the Olympic champion of ski jumping by teams from the Pyeongchang Games (South Korea).
Now, golf clubs have replaced skis in his life… and even in his mind: “If I had known what it was like, I would have preferred to win an Olympic gold medal in golf.” Too late for Paris 2024, but is the Norwegian dreaming of the Los Angeles Games in 2028?
