Ski jumping : aiming for the 2030 Olympic Games
Three years after putting an end to her career, Kamila Karpiel is back on skis. At the beginning of October, the Polish ski jumper took part in the ORLEN Cup in Szczyrk (Poland), taking two fifth places. At 24, the four-time Polish champion is hoping for a fresh start.
I’m not concentrating on this season’s results,” she tells Skijumping.pl. ” If I can do that, so much the better, but above all I want to devote this time to preparing for the next Olympic Games. Courchevel 2030 is a realistic project, and that’s my goal.
Having moved to Norway after her retirement, the Pole decided to return to Poland for good. A lot of people asked me if I was going back, so I finally gave in,” she says. Coming back home was tough. I had to reorganise everything: find a club, a coach, accommodation, a job… but I think I managed well […] I’m very well supported.
To finance her project, she juggles training with a job in the restaurant trade. “I work as a waitress in the afternoons and evenings. It’s not my dream job, but it gives me time to train. As long as I don’t have any financial support, I want to remain independent.

After a long break and major knee surgery in 2019, Kamila Karpiel is patiently rebuilding her condition. “My knee is fine, but I’m not at 100% yet. I need time. I’m analysing more and jumping less on instinct. Before, I used to rush headlong into things.
Lucid about the road ahead, the Pole refuses to rush things. “Beijing has eluded me, Italy too, but I believe in France. I’m building stone by stone, without rushing.
