Ski jumping: Thomas Morgenstern wins ahead of golfer Sepp Straka
On Wednesday evening, the NIKI Awards ceremony, the twenty-ninth of its kind, took place in the Stadthalle in Vienna (Austria). As is the case every year, a wide range of categories were honoured at this ceremony honouring the best Austrian sportsmen and women of the past year.
In the men’s category, it was ski jumper Daniel Tschofenig, winner of the Four Tremplines Tour, the Crystal Globe and last winter’s world medallist, who took the title. With a total of 916 points, he was ahead of golfer Sepp Straka (729) and alpine skier Raphael Haaser(721). Jan Hoerl was eighth (164) and Mika Vermeulen tenth (92).
Daniel Tschofenig thus becomes the first ski jumper to win this prestigious trophy since Thomas Morgenstern, who won in 2011 and 2008. Wolfgang Loitzl won in 2009, as did Andreas Goldberger (1996, 1993), Andreas Felder (1987), Armin Kogler (1982, 1981, 1979) and Anton Innauer (1980).
In the women’s category, alpine skier Stephanie Venier (968) was the logical winner in a category where Eva Pinkelnig won in 2023. Cross-country skier Teresa Stadlober (88) was fourteenth and combined skier Lisa Hirner (34) eighteenth.
